OUR dog recently underwent a life-threatening operation to remove a corn on the cob which he had found in the undergrowth and swallowed while we were out walking.

I have seen chicken bones and other food which have been left out for the foxes.

People also drop food such as banana skins, chewing gum, etc and these can be picked up by dogs or other animals and cannot be digested and will then get stuck in their intestines.

We managed to get our dog to the vet in time, but he told us he could have died. Maxwell (and us) went through a lot of distress.

We are fortunate he is still with us but other animals may not be so lucky if they eat food they cannot digest.

Please do not leave out or drop food for humans which you cannot eat.

On a final note, if we hadn’t had pet insurance, we would have been paying off a credit card for a very long time.
