IN MAY 2010, 30 churches across the denominations, contributed in various ways to the work of Christian Aid, raising more than £27,000.

Some of us will be knocking on your doors this week, hoping that you will have popped something in the little red envelope.

Others will be out with collection tins, in the street of Bournemouth town centre, Boscombe and Southbourne on Saturday, May 21.

All our collectors are volunteers and finding volunteers is not easy – many people find it hard to ask and are deterred by refusals. So please contribute what you can even if it’s only a few loose coins.

Christian Aid helps people regardless of colour, creed or nationality; it seeks to help people to stand on their own feet and works with local partners.

In Nicaragua, for example, there are projects to help coffee farmers produce better crops and work together.

We believe that together we can beat poverty so please, give what you can.
