MIKE Chalkley’s letter (“Could this voter not have walked?”, May 13) appears to lack a few points of consideration.
Firstly, many people are unable to walk (or cycle) even short distances.
Secondly, many people need to use their cars often for genuine personal reasons, again, even for comparatively short journeys.
On the other hand many motorists will justifiably argue that they pay their road tax to use the roads, fuel tax, insurance and VAT and so they have every right to use their vehicles as and when they wish.
Thirdly, the fact that there was no provision for cycle parking at the Holly Tree public house should not have presented any problem because on the basis of his own argument cyclists could easily secure and park their bikes at the nearest convenient point (eg kerb or wall) and walk the rest of the way.
