BRIAN Jenner writes (Letters, May 24) that the idea of Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch having distinct and separate identities is tenuous.

Of course, having lived here for only seven years, Mr Jenner can be forgiven for his ignorance. Poole, with over 800 years of history behind it, and Christchurch with over 1,000 years of history are to most locals as different as chalk and cheese. He says he wants Bournemouth to be known with its neighbours as “Bomocity” and that the area could become the “Los Angeles of England”.

Having looked at Mr Jenner’s websites, I see that he also thinks of Boscombe as Californian living. I am frankly sick and tired of people like him coming forward with grandiose ideas that we cannot afford. We have seen it with the surf reef and many other pet projects that are put forward by those that claim to be the movers and shakers of Bournemouth and as was put on his website “We are the beautiful people now”.

We should be dealing with real problems in real people’s lives, not vanity projects, BoMo city? More like No No City.

• I DO hope that Brian Jenner has his tongue firmly planted in his cheek when suggesting that the way forward for Bournemouth (Letters, May 24) is “Los Angeles, UK”.

Having recently arrived in our town from the traffic jams, congestion and high prices in London, I would have thought that the last thing on his mind would be the smog, “high rise” crime and delinquency and seven-lane traffic for miles on end.

He should realise that Bournemouth town planners are perfectly capable of messing the whole town up without his unqualified encouragement. Perhaps he would like to stand against me as the first elected mayor.
