WHAT an honour for Bournemouth to have been chosen to host the Olympic torch on its journey through Britain next July, which will surely generate great excitement amongst locals and visitors alike.
In response to the curmudgeonly letter from Tony Angellis (who actually lives in Poole), I would say that Bournemouth Council will do what it did so well during the Bi-Centenary year and involve all sections of our wonderfully diverse and lively community, young and old, in events and celebrations.
He is mistaken in stating that the torch will be carried by an athlete. There is a great opportunity for local people to nominate a team of inspirational members of the community to carry the torch through the town, with an emphasis on young people.
If you would like to nominate a special young person who is deserving of the honour to carry the torch, go to
https://otr.lloyds2012.qa.lbi.co.uk/en/carrytheflame/nominate-someone
and the closing date for nominations is June 29.
Bournemouth is proud to be selected as one of the venues for what will be a spectacular showcase for our town. Forget the disgruntled gainsayers and let us all start looking forward with anticipation to a wonderful evening of celebrations at the start of the Olympics.
