There was a tragic irony in the fact that you published yet another anti-cycling diatribe from Philip Whitelegg of Northbourne on the same day that you ran a ‘Cyclist Killed’ headline.

Where does this prejudice come from?

Did he have a bad cycling experience at an impressionable age?

It cannot be a concern for public safety otherwise he would be writing regularly requesting motorists to give adequate space to cyclists when overtaking.

I trust our councillors are objective enough to consult the statistics.

Cyclists are vulnerable. They are the ones who get seriously injured and killed.

To even contemplate taking away an all too rare traffic free route like the promenade is monstrous.
