THE clamour which is mounting to save our Pier Theatre is reminiscent of the one some years ago over the closure of the Winter Gardens. I remember inquiring, via the Daily Echo letters, as to how many of the protagonists regularly, if ever, visited that theatre?
As a regular supporter of the weekly 6.50 concerts I recalled that, often, those on the platform almost outnumbered those in the auditorium.
The same argument applies to the Pier Theatre today, but with an added impediment, namely the remoteness of the theatre on a wretched winter’s night, enough to dissuade public and players alike. So, if we don’t use it we must lose it.
