WAS it worth it?! At last the green at Ashley Cross is finished – long after the predicted time of Easter! We went to see what had taken so long and at a cost of around £360,000.
Well the fountain is very nice, I agree, and the French boules will probably be used, but what on earth are the large balls for and what is the round paved area surrounded by bollards for?
OK there is a low wooden structure for young children to walk along, a small wooden dragonfly and three wooded structures that you can’t do much with.
It seems the idea is to attract families with small children, so why on earth was there no railings erected to stop their children running into the road, even if they were just where the play area is?
This park is surrounded on all sides by busy roads. Not only children but dogs running out could cause a serious accident.
I expect whoever designed this was really well proud – even though they had no idea whatsoever!
My daughter who lives at Ashley cross and has a small child will not use this park and she feels she could not sit and relax with the roads so close and no fencing of any sort.
I would, as I expect I paid towards this work, like to see a breakdown of costs to see how this money was actually spent.
