I REFER to the recent article on Dorset’s countdown to the 2012 Olympics which says ‘During the Olympics, spectators will be able to view the competition from a ticketed, onshore area, which will also have a video screen’.
This should read ‘may’ as planning permission has not yet been granted (or even discussed) by Weymouth and Portland Borough council planning committee for the ancillary works like fencing, etc. for the Nothe Gardens.
Objections to the planning application have been raised and so use of the gardens by the Olympic committee is not a foregone conclusion especially as it is understood that Weymouth will not stand to gain financially from the use of this recreational area.
