Why do the cafes put bins out every night? WITH the subject of rubbish collection rarely out of the headlines these days, I wonder if anyone at the council department responsible for waste management can explain why restaurants and late-night cafes are permitted to place their garbage on the pavement in plastic bags every night?
I live near The Triangle and every morning have to negotiate pavements covered in kitchen waste from plastic bags that have been torn apart by foxes and seagulls.
Just this morning, a 30-yard stretch of the pavement on Old Christchurch Road was covered in eggshells, grease, vegetable peelings, cans and all manner of other kitchen waste and when I say covered, I MEAN covered.
Householders are required to place their garbage in plastic bins, so why does the same rule not apply to catering establishments?
The council’s cleaners do a great job of cleaning up the filth - but they shouldn’t have to.
