I WAS horrified by the letter from Bryan Peters stating that he sticks to 60 mph on motorways and then complains about vehicles that ‘push him’ or even overtake him. The Highway Code clearly states that vehicles should drive up to the speed limit wherever possible and should keep to the nearside lane except when overtaking.

Car speedometers tend to over read by about 10 per cent so an indicated 60mph is actually about 54 mph.

lf he is driving at this speed in the nearside lane, why should he be upset at other vehicles overtaking him? lf he is driving at an indicated 60 mph in the middle or outside lanes he is committing an offence such as causing an obstruction or driving without due care and consideration. ‘Holier than thou’ drivers who try to impose their will on other drivers are an absolute menace and should have their licences revoked.
