BETWEEN 2002 and 2010 the national rate of inflation was a compounded 20.2 per cent; during the same period Poole Council Tax increased by a staggering 50.2 per cent.
For 2011/12 the Council, like many others, has been forced to budget on a zero per cent increase.
Now they have announced an intention to introduce a £31 per household charge for the green garden waste bins that we have used for some years.
This move is, of course, a blatant attempt to get around the zero per cent increase and for my household would actually mean a two per cent hike in my council tax.
Sorry, Poole Council, but if you introduce this charge you can come and take away my green bin.
I will dispose of my excess garden waste, after composting, by burning in a weekly bonfire and (b) use black bags which will go into my black household waste collection bin.
Being law-abiding I won’t take to fly-tipping, though I suspect that the incidence of this across the borough will increase considerably.
I shall be writing to my councillor Karen Rampton, Shaun Robson at Poole Council and Conor Burns MP to protest this unacceptable scheme.
Similar correspondence from a significant proportion of the 22,000 households who will be affected just might make them regret the arrogance of the proposals.
