I find it difficult to understand what all the fuss is about (Danger Road (front page, June 17).
There is nothing basically wrong with the A31 Roundhouse to Almer. There never has been.
Unfortunately, there is plenty wrong with the many motorists who do not drive properly and with due care and attention within the existing 60mph speed limit and sadly, it appears, there always will be.
Those who believe that the problem will be solved by reducing the speed limit are not in touch with reality. Only a short distance further along this road (westward) through Almer and Winterborne Zelston there is already a 40mph speed restriction which makes not the slightest difference to about eighty per cent of drivers and is why the speed camera van has such a successful time when it is in position there. Notwithstanding the speed limit there have been many serious accidents (some fatal) within that zone.
Speed limits are of little use unless they can be adequately enforced and if motorists drove more sensibly and considerately many of them would be unnecessary.
