I WAS pleased to read Steven Smith's report about the Race for Life event to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
As I was walking along the promenade it was a great site to see hundreds of women taking part for such a good cause.
What I was disappointed to see, though, as I sat in the Lower Gardens to listen to the band, which never turned up, was that quite a few of those women who had taken part in the race were smoking!
With cigarettes being the biggest factor to cause cancer, it is unbelievable that anyone should wish to raise funds for research but then risk getting the illness they are fighting to eradicate.
Not the best advert one would have hoped to see, particularly to the children who were with them.
