I HAD to write after reading Jeremy Miles’s review of the Ringo Starr All Starr Band concert at the BIC (Daily Echo, June 27).
As the name of the band suggests, this was not just a Ringo Starr concert but an all-star band concert. If Mr Miles knew a bit more about music perhaps he could have appreciated the musicianship that was on display on stage on Friday evening.
All of the musicians on stage were given the chance to display their amazing talents, each being given two of their own songs to perform.
Edgar Winter, Rick Derringer, Richard Page, Gary Wright and Wally Palmar were all very entertaining in their own right. I think, as suggested by Jeremy Miles, to say the band plonked their way through Yellow Submarine etc was a real insult.
I know concerts are all enjoyed as a matter of personal taste, but to end Mr Miles’s review with “We all love Ringo and he knows it, it's why he gets away with these awful concerts” was completely wrong. My wife and I had a good night.
