UNBELIEVABLE that catastrophic, genocidal climate change should not be included in the National Curriculum (Guardian June 13).

As a teacher (36 years) it is horrifying to watch our youngsters being kept in ignorance by our sandcastle civilisation. The Peak Oil betrayal (Warnings ignored by Labour – Guardian June 16) the IEA warns this was passed in 2006 globally. The huge security implications are voiced, amongst others, by those old lefties the US military, 2010 report ‘The Oil Crunch’.

The dreadful warnings of scientific academies internationally are being swept aside by vested interests and ignorance.

Mark Lynas trawled through tens of thousands of scientific papers when he wrote ‘Six Degrees. NASA’, James Hansen’s ‘Storms of My Grandchildren’ clearly spells out the dangers to our collective offspring as greenhouse gases pour, sewage-like, into our shared atmosphere. 350 ppm CO2 being a recommended safer level.

Our pupils should learn of our overheated, over-fished, plasticised, compromised, acidified oceans. Our degraded soils, water, ecosystem. Deforestation/habitat.

Biodiversity loss/human rights abuses caused by global demands.

If we fail to choose for them they will have no choices. Our students should also learn that many do care about them. Serious behaviour change is possible.
