THE joy of travelling to Waterloo station as a boy in the early 80s was fantastic. I used to help my dad in the buffet car, along with my brothers and we often had a Casey Jones burger at Waterloo.

The food available was quite good on the British Rail buffet cars, mixed grill, bacon sandwiches, full English and served on plates in a cafe seating area in the buffet car. It was expensive at the time.

Surely we can do better than what is currently on offer at South West Trains. In India you can get a good hot meal on the train. England is one of the worst for food on trains. It is a pity as I believe it was fantastic in the ’60s.

Bring back hot food on plates in a cafe area on the trains.
