FAIR warning to all and any people thinking of driving through Dorset for the Weymouth Olympics next year, let alone the caravanners etc.
We have no motorways and precious few dual carriageways in the county along any major route to the West Country.
Going south after the M27 and New Forest, we start with an abomination known as the Ringwood bypass on the Dorset borders.
Two lanes mix into one effective lane at Ringwood, where three entries merge thus, causing tail backs up the notorious bottle neck in Poulner Hill area.
Currently the other mis-planned roundabout at Canford Bottom (Wimborne) is being revamped, which will no doubt have the present traffic queues forming a long line next summer.
One decent length of dual road bypassing Bere Regis leads to an “extra” lane turning left along the Dorchester ring road – if the town traffic eases up to allow you on to the Weymouth road.
All these roadworks needed action during the last century (20 or 30 years ago), not when the Olympics is due!
Good luck and don’t say you weren’t warned.
