IT appears that Richard Drax does not really know what happens on his own home patch (MP’s road vow, Echo, January 26).

During the past few years there has been a fatality on this section of the A31 and speed limits achieve very little unless they can be regularly enforced.

Most drivers seem to think that they do not apply to them, especially the many motorcyclists who believe that they do not have to comply with any limits.

Only a short distant westward at Almer and Winterborne Zelston a 40mph speed limit exists with little effect. Dorset Police have quite rightfully stated that there is nothing wrong with this road; it is a clear stretch and the bends are well signed.

Sensible motorists will agree with this assessment and a further speed limit is totally unnecessary.

The problems and the dangers are caused by motorists who do not keep to the mandatory 60mph limit and drive without due care and consideration for the conditions prevailing at the time.
