WITH regard to Poole Council’s green bins, I must say how pleased I have been to partly pay for green bins at other residents’ houses for years when I have not had one myself.
I do feel that the way green waste is handled in Poole is complete madness.
Instead of paying a private company (10 miles from Poole) to shred, rot and re-sell the ‘mulch’, why don’t they do it themselves?
This could be done with a leased machine perhaps on the old White’s Tip off Gravel Hill.
The woodchip could be used in Poole’s own biomass generator?
The mulch and logs could be sold to residents or even abroad.
Waste wood from the house/boat building trades could be processed and sold to particle board manufacturers.
With such a facility, Poole’s parks and open space arisings would be managed within the borough, by the borough, not by a maintenance company (who do a great job) but whose profits go abroad (the last thing this country needs).
I will wait to hear the 101 reasons why this could not be done.
Far easier to make bad decisions at the cost of the taxpayer, letting private companies profiteer on the borough’s mismanagement, apathy and lack of enterprise.
