THE proposed steps to improve the safety of children going to and coming home from Sylvan First School is an excellent idea, but it has to be properly policed.
Those of us who live close to Baden Powell Middle School in Whitecliff campaigned to have yellow lines with no loading or unloading restrictions at pupil arrival and leaving times installed on one side of Mill Lane and at the start of Mill Hill Close, which we have achieved.
There are still parents who totally ignore these restrictions even though they are breaking the law.
Gentle reminders by us residents are treated with scorn and even pointing out that the safety of their own children is at risk makes no difference.
