BOURNEMOUTH councillor Michael Filer is proposing the town should ask for a law to restrict blue badge (disabled) parking.
My friend has a blue badge and when I drive her to Bournemouth we very rarely have trouble in finding a parking space in Westover Road.
In fact, on Wednesday, February 29 there were at least six empty spaces.
Our trips into town involve going to the cinema or to the shops especially in the Old Christchurch Road area.
Should the council decide to restrict the use of blue badges in the area, we would take our cinema visits at Tower Park and our shopping trips to Castlepoint or even Hedge End, both of which offer ample free parking and disabled bays.
Therefore, Cllr Filer, you now have the opportunity of driving yet more money-spending shoppers away from the town centre to the out of town retail parks.
I personally think it is a ‘no brainer’ and I suspect most of your fellow councillors and town centre traders would agree.
DAVID GRACE New Road, Bournemouth
