I ATTENDED the Dorset County Council cabinet committee meeting in Dorchester on Wednesday March 7 to hopefully hear a debate concerning the proposed dual puffin crossing which will be situated close to my home, a large retirement complex of 124 flats, on Ringwood Road, Ferndown.

This is near to the traffic lights at Penny’s Hill.

But there was no debate. It took the councillors about 10 seconds to recommend the crossing, although I had sent them new information following the meeting of the roads and highways committee.

They were under the impression that the crossing would not add to the traffic congestion and that the photograph I had sent to them did not show ‘normal’ conditions, because of the heavy traffic diverted from the Canford Bottom works, but the photograph was actually take on January 23 at 12.18pm long before the diversion was implemented.

The dual puffin crossing will be in the wrong place and too near the Penny’s Hill traffic lights.

Ringwood Road is always very busy, especially near the traffic lights, which inevitably result in a build up of traffic.

Also an application has gone to the planning department of the East Dorset District Council for a large takeaway/drive through with an estimated 358 cars in and out per day.

This will also be near to the traffic lights, which will mean even more congestion.

What a waste of £85,000 of tax payers money.

Why don’t they locate the crossing away from the traffic lights or make the very dangerous Penny’s Hill junction safe?

I am completely dissatisfied with our system. It appears that if the councillors have made up their minds – reason goes out the window.
