I WOULD like to respond to the letter concerning a perceived influx of police in Westbourne (Echo, March 9).

I am a long-established resident of the area. Over the past few months, I, together with my neighbours, have had a number of serious concerns regarding criminal and anti-social behaviour.

Our local neighbourhood police team has been exemplary, setting up meetings, liaising with us in our homes, good advice and sound policing.

Our small part of Westbourne has been made a far better place to live.

Over the past few months I certainly have seen a sustained and significant police presence, together with a rise in local standard.

So may I reassure the concerned coffee drinker, I for one do not begrudge my contribution to the police in my council tax bill.
