THE repairs and reconstruction of Tuckton Bridge are no doubt needed in the interest of good traffic management.

However, the inevitable inconvenience, frustration and delays caused to users could have been mitigated had Bournemouth Council shown a sense of urgency over the work.

It is rare to see more than a handful of men engaged on the structure and round-the-clock working should have been introduced.

Now the situation is about to get much worse.

Council jobsworths want to reconfigure the Tuckton Roundabout itself.

This will mean restricted access and a reduction in the number of lanes serving the roundabout.

These changes are not a temporary measure but intended to be a permanent and substantive feature leading to the creation of a new traffic bottleneck.
