THE roadworks across Tuckton Bridge are causing traffic chaos and misery.

A journey to Bailey Bridge, Barrack Road from Iford Lane, which usually takes approximately seven minutes, is taking anything up to 45 minutes.

Drivers approaching the roundabout from Belle Vue Road are obviously taking a detour via The Broadway and Sunnylands Avenue to exit the roundabout in Wick Lane.

This in the hope of making an easier exit on to the roundabout as there is less traffic to give way to coming from the right.

All exits and entrances on the roundabout are being blocked, causing a chaotic free for all.

There is very little in the way of courtesy of vehicles merging alternately, which would help the flow from all three exits onto the bridge.

Some “merge in turn” signs may be helpful.

The misery continues nose to tail west all along Barrack Road for the entire working day with only the slightest relief in the middle of the day.

One can only hope for some respite during the Easter school holidays when usually the traffic is considerably less.

Could we also learn of the reasoning behind the new pedestrian crossing at Iford Bridge only some 100 yards from a zebra crossing at Iford roundabout?

And there’s yet another road hump outside the Tuckton tea gardens in Wick Lane.

The only benefit will be more misery to motorists in this already totally congested area of the borough.
