I HAVE this week received my invitation to renew my Cherries’ season ticket for the 2012/2013 season.
The offer represents excellent value for money, especially with the improvements being made to the ground and facilities, together with the prospects of having a successful team for the season.
I have followed Bournemouth & Boscombe since my family holiday visits in the late 1940s/early 1950s.
My career brought me to Bournemouth in 1975 and since then I have been a regular at Dean Court and a season ticket holder since the building of the new stadium.
However, I will NOT be accepting this invitation of renewal.
I am unable to support and accept the present antics of the chairman, Mr Mitchell, despite all his financial backing and good work in the recovery of the club from a desperate situation.
His behaviour is unacceptable. Where is his dignity? Whilst he has the right to be proud of his success in business, where is his respect for others?
In his position he must accept that his business and personal life will come under scrutiny, both good and bad.
A good relationship between any club and the local newspapers is of paramount importance. Supporters expect to be able to have, hopefully, unbiased views on what is going on at the club.
And yet, Mr Mitchell, through his press officer, has prohibited the Daily Echo from any contact with the club, players or officials.
He must accept that any bad publicity he has received was brought on by himself.
His apology and fine by the FA following his recent outburst, needs to be the last.
Now is the time for him to use his building skills to rebuild the bridges between the supporters and the media, in order that we, the paying customers, may be proud to be associated with the chairman, the board, the manager and his team and the players of AFC Bournemouth.
If Mr Mitchell wishes to continue with his dogmatic ‘dog in the manger’ approach, I invite him to ban me from the stadium for the remaining games of the season.
