I AGREE with comments made (re Ice Rink project on hold) – Bournemouth Council make so much red tape that developers become disinterested in putting forward plans for anything.
Yet, look at the surf reef. The money spent on that could have been used for an ice rink development.
The thought that it would not pay for itself is completely wrong.
Parents want their children to be interested in an activity other than Playstations, drinking and drugs, so other facilities have to be on offer.
Money is tight at the moment but when the financial situation improves we have to have all these things in place, which will encourage locals and visitors to spend their free time here in Bournemouth.
A water park could be fitted on a site in the town with maybe a facility for surfing?
Blocks of flats on prime sites seems to be a money-making thing for a developer but does not give Bournemouth any added attraction for our tourist trade.
The bus station would also be ideal to bring people into the town and avoid the closure of shops and restaurants in the centre.
Bournemouth’s beach only attracts people in the good weather so we have to offer them more to bring the town back to its heyday.
Some people living here now unfortunately have not the same values of preserving buildings, caring for our environment and general respect of the place they live in, so they have to be taught we will not put up with vandalism and crime.
Walking home at night especially on your own is a no, and even if you have to pay for a taxi, better to be safe.
You can no longer take chances sadly.
