RECENTLY, I read in the Echo a statement from the police saying that crime was up in the area, particularly relating to the scrap metal thieves and advising the public to increase their security to help protect their cars, etc.
So imagine my surprise when a week later I received a letter from the council advising me of the proposal to turn our street lights off between midnight and 6am every night.
I live at the end of a small cul-de-sac and if the lights are turned off my driveway will be like a dark cave or perhaps I should say an Aladdin’s cave to the would-be thieves.
The council tell me they have been in consultation with the police, so how can they justify this switch-off when crime is on the increase?
