AFTER reading Dr Rodger’s letter (Daily Echo March 17), I felt that I had to reply to his statement “Dorset’s emissions are helping to stoke up serious climate change for future generations.”
It is this type of unscientific rhetoric that is turning climate change into a quasi-religion.
To put the matter into perspective, imagine the whole of the UK, along with our 60+ million population, disappearing under the ocean overnight.
Our permanent absence would not make one iota of difference to global CO2 emission, in fact, what we produce would be replaced in months by the expanding economies of India and China.
The ‘holier than thou’ approach that the UK government has adopted on emissions reduction has lead to massive subsidies to the wind energy industry (mostly foreign owned).
The effect of this will be a tripling of electricity costs by 2020 and the crippling of high energy usage manufacturing industries.
Already, Rio Tinto are, in the UK, closing down an aluminium smelting plant, citing high energy costs as the reason.
Strange, I thought that manufacturing was going to save our stricken economy!
