ONE of my favourite places to walk, in all seasons, is Southbourne clifftops. I do this at least twice a week.

One can get a terrific panoramic view from Hengistbury Head, the Isle of Wight, Boscombe and Bournemouth Pier and well as over to Branksome, Sandbanks and even Studland in the far distance. Especially on a very clear day.

It is such a beautiful experience to enjoy I imagine at any time of the day or night.

There are many walkers, like myself and joggers, too. It is also a very popular area for dog-walkers and I have got to know many, even if it’s just with a ‘Hello’ and a comment on the morning’s weather.

I have found them to be most sociable people. In my experience I have found a high majority of people to be so responsible when it comes to their animal fouling. Around that whole area are many bins for both ordinary litter and dog mess.

Yet on occasion, I have witnessed the minority of those who care not at all. They watch their dog foul right in front of them and just walk away. Once even by a wooden bench where people might want to sit and was donated by a family of a lost one.

When I walk those clifftops, I like to look out to sea and beyond the coastline but many times I cannot.

I have to look down instead to make sure I am not treading in any dog muck. A good few times I have.

To my mind, those responsible are so selfish and simply spoil everything for the rest of us.
