I’M sorry to hear Mike Roberts-Butler is having problems with his TV reception and would like to reassure him and other readers that switchover does not require people to buy a new digital television (‘Digital switch over is not plain sailing’, April 10).
Virtually any set, even black and white ones, can be converted to digital using a set-top box, available from around £20.
While it’s difficult to comment on individual reception difficulties from a distance, some viewers in the Dolbery Road area may be able to receive a signal from more than one transmitter.
Where this is the case, a manual retune can be required to be sure Freeview equipment is receiving the best signal. Instructions on manual retuning are available at digitaluk.co.uk/retuning. If this does not resolve this issue, we would recommend consulting a good local aerial installer.
Viewers with questions on switchover can also call the Digital UK advice line on 08456 505050.
