ONCE again another development for Bournemouth falls by the wayside, ‘The Winter Gardens Project’.

The ongoing saga has been discussed for over 20 years.

Rod Kennedy, who was a staunch supporter to retain a historic building, worked tirelessly for years to retain and encompass the hall and retain the acoustics of the original building and what did the council do?

Demolish it and turn it into a car park.

What will happen to the Imax? That will surely go down a similar route. Another wet Bank Holiday and where were the holiday makers and day trippers? Nowhere to be seen and why?

Because, come to Bournemouth on a wet Bank Holiday and what do we have to offer that is weatherproof?

An aquarium, no swimming pool, no ice skating, no roller skating, no indoor rock climbing, all of which could be encompassed within the Imax.

May I suggest all the councillors book a day trip to Brighton to show them how it should be done.

Bournemouth council must have realised some years ago that the ‘Bath Chair’ image of the town needed changing.

So what did they do?

Dished out night club licences to saturate the town and attract a younger crowd. And what is the result? Weekends full of stag and hen parties that have dubbed the town the party capital of the south and with that putting Old Christchurch Road and Glen Fern Road in the top ten most dangerous places to be in the UK at the weekend.

Come on Bournemouth councillors, either change your direction and move on or move over and allow some fresh blood into the council chambers.
