IT is not always easy to write a newspaper piece that tells the whole story, but a headline describing the Admirals Walk board as “dictatorial” (March 30) could not be further from the truth.

The headline and statements that were reported are especially misleading when you consider that the board is bound by majority decisions taken at general meetings at which all shareholders can express their views and vote directly or by proxy.

The residents gained the freehold 10 years ago, and all but 10 of the 121 leaseholders now own freehold shares in their company. Every shareholder may stand for election as a director in order to implement decisions and get the necessary work done.

Those who complain can volunteer to become directors and help the board make the day-to-day decisions needed to run the building and plan for the future.

Our unpaid volunteer directors are obliged to operate to the requirements of the leases, and in accordance with the company’s agreed mission statement, which emphasises fairness. We therefore fail to understand how any fair-minded person could describe the Admirals Walk board of directors as dictatorial when all the decisions have been decided by a majority of the flat owners after full and open consultation.

We also know that we speak for the majority of shareholders who are fair minded and will share our views.
