I APPRECIATE the letters from the two councillors in answer to my Echo letter regarding the situation of the proposed new store for Kinson.
I am afraid that they both missed the point, which is the profligate and cavalier attitude of Bournemouth Borough Council in the millions of pounds that have been wasted on disastrous schemes in recent times, and it is obvious from recent letters to the Echo I am not alone in my thinking.
I put it to them: ask the unemployed (young and old) of North Bournemouth if they would prefer a job or a swimming pool? And I am sure the vast majority (a much used quote, with no validity at all) would plump for the former.
In addition, I would suggest that the sticking point of the sum involved would be recovered in a very short space of time by payment of “rates” alone from Tesco whose track record is well proven, notwithstanding the obvious benefits to this area. All they have to do is look around at the difference a brand new shopping facility such as the plans shown in Kinson Hub (library) would make. I see no point in quoting standard practices, etc. Don’t just sit there, do it.
