THE proposed destruction of the Imax shows a lack of both prudence and imagination at the Town Hall.
Frequently the view is sighted, as a reason for destruction; odd this, coming from a Council that is clearly bereft of vision.
The idea being mooted will be expensive, unkind to the environment, and shall invariably end up providing the town with another sea front car park.
Why is there such a desire to obliterate and destroy, even in cash-strapped times?
The plan does not send a useful signal; it says “we have given up”.
Instead of knocking things down and closing things at cost and loss (think Townsend School’s un-needed end,) the council should amend, be creative and develop.
True, there are issues with the building, but surely a more useful and progressive solution would be to adjust it, blend it into the environment, allow it to compliment the vista and remain as a facility.
Think of the view from an open, gently-staggered roof.
The current administration is behaving like a set of despotic mini-tyrants, bulldozing around making expensive gestures.
Bournemouth has much innovative potential. Please let’s put this to use.
