THE recent letter regarding litter louts urged me to write about my own area.
Slades Farm in the daytime is a hive of activity with youngsters enjoying the skateboard park and cycling arena, responsible dog walkers, cyclists and families finding their own amusement amongst the several areas on offer.
Money well spent and well looked after by the council. But unfortunately come sundown the “it wasn’t me and couldn’t care anyway brigade” take over, dispersing the usual garbage of cigarette ends, bottles and paper that has to be picked up by someone else at 6.30 in the morning so it is habitable for the next day.
Most of us know the answer to this band of under-age smokers and drinkers. Just once or twice a month send the police and a council representative with cameras, get the evidence and heavily fine the culprits or their parents.
But no. Our government think that by putting up prices of alcohol, hiding cigarettes behind shutters and expensive advertising this is going to solve things.
They are greatly mistaken and until some politicians and local councillors realise this the untidiness and gradual ruination of our town will continue.
