WITH reference to the letter ‘Wasting recycling leading to drought’. I too wash out my tins and bottles and I do it by soaking them in the washing up water when I have finished washing up.
This also enables the labels to come off easily and does not require any extra water. When running the hot taps for washing up I collect the cold water first in an empty plastic container, which I keep by the sink for this purpose.
This can then be used for cleaning vegetables or watering house plants.
