WHAT needs to be done that will make some dog owners more alert to possible dangers with their pets?
It frustrates me to see some of the lack of basic awareness of owning a dog.
Recently I was out with my own dog that was quite happily playing off lead when about 25 yards away someone else with two dogs – one on lead, one off – walked our way.
Keeping a wary eye as always, I carried on our walk when, you guessed it, the off lead one ran over jumping, snarling and yapping at me and my dog.
We both backed off with this dog in tow until eventually the owner gained control of their pet.
With no acknowledgement or apology I remarked ‘what if there was a small child with me? It would have been frightened’.
Still no comment. It left me bemused at that attitude and no, it wasn’t a 30–40-year-old with pit bull-type animals. It was a lady, old enough to know better, with Jack Russell type-breeds.
