I AM delighted to inform all residents of Bournemouth that the council has initiated new local street champions in several districts of the town, who will get to know their area and will keep the streets clean and tidy for everyone to enjoy.
In Springbourne, street champion Derek is already making a great impact as he patrols the streets with his cart, and was highly praised at the recent Springbourne Forum meeting for his friendly and efficient efforts.
However, the champions have many streets to cover and can’t be everywhere at the same time.
They need to rely on intelligence from residents about particular trouble spots, broken glass or other unpleasant litter, so that they can go along and deal with it.
The best way is by emailing your local councillor, who will pass on the information.
I can assure your correspondent that there is no tightening of the purse strings as far as keeping our streets clean is concerned – on the contrary, the council is determined to maintain the highest standards that our residents and visitors could wish for.
Councillor Anne Filer East Cliff & Springbourne Ward, Bournemouth Borough Council
