I WOULD like to remind dog owners that the last opportunity to exercise their dogs on some of our local beaches is fast approaching.
I know from my local beaches at Steamer Point and Avon Beach that the areas banning dogs in the summer are seen as much more attractive to dog walkers at any time of the year.
Last year I thought there was almost an impromptu ceremony on those areas on the last day and again at the end of the summer but noticed that the abuse of the beaches slowed a little in May until the weather again improved and beachgoers arrived in numbers.
Our weather is changing such that last year April was very warm as was October and this year March provided a warm spell good enough to bring children to the beaches. Let’s sort this out for the benefit of all and ban dogs from these beaches all year round and enforce it.
