HAVING lost my husband last year and not being able to drive, I have thought about buying a cycle as means of getting around having always cycled in my youth.

However upon reading a recent letter and hearing about so many bikes being stolen it has made me reconsider this option.

Clearly cycle locks need a revamp. My suggestion would be a small alarm incorporated within the lock or cable.

When an attempt to tamper or cut trough the locking device, a small alarm would sound, hoping this would deter the thief.

It seems that bolt croppers are used to steal the bikes as my daughter recently witnessed in Bournemouth.

A good invention is needed. I could then purchase a bicycle with a little more confidence.
