ONE wonders what can be so confidential about the consultation between the local authority and the police regarding the decision to switch off street lights in some areas of Blandford between midnight and 5.30am (Police decline to release consultation details – April 30). Do not the council tax paying residents of Blandford contribute to the cost of the street lighting, the existence of Dorset County Council and Dorset Police? Could this be another example of so-called public consultation?
If Dorset County Council are so concerned about saving a mere £150,000 a year they could easily and quickly achieve this and very much more by dispensing with the several non-productive figureheads that exist within its ranks.
