THE recent correspondence regarding trolley buses and how successful they were has made me wonder if a modern system could be reintroduced.
Today trolley buses use auxiliary power units to drive them beyond the wires and systems which automatically reset the connecting poles when they become detached are possible.
Trolley buses where they have been reintroduced have proved more popular than conventional buses with higher use.
Routes running from Poole to Christchurch through Bournemouth town centre and to the airport and university could be established, for a lot less than the similarly sized conurbation of Edinburgh spent on a tram system.
This is an idea that could be achieved and deserves serious consideration.
