AS Deputy leader of Poole Council and chairman of the board which oversaw the Twin Sails Bridge project I would appreciate the opportunity to respond to Randolph Meech’s letter of May 9.
This project has cost approaching £40m and has been one of the largest infrastructure projects in the UK.
It has attracted worldwide attention and has been a major focus for potential investors in Poole.
The bridge is key to opening up the regeneration area and the future vitality of this town.
The publicity costs, mainly for communications and events, are less than half of one per cent of the project costs.
By any standard this represents excellent value for money as it will help attract hundreds of millions of pounds in investment funds for jobs and homes.
Mr Meech thanks one of his Liberal Democrat colleagues for bringing this to the attention of the public.
What he has not pointed out is that this colleague sits on the bridge project board.
As such he has been receiving regular budget reports and updates for almost a year without apparently seeing the need for public comment.
