I AM researching my son-in-law’s family. His mother and grandmother were born in Christchurch, a town which I had not visited.
I needed background information for a book and Christchurch Public Library referred me to the Christchurch local History Society.
I wrote to them in December 2010 with a first list of queries which were promptly answered, a series of letters between us followed over several months which produced much of the information about Paul’s family between 1890 and 1930.
Every query of mine was dealt with quickly and very fully. Their service was exceptional.
The book is about to go to my publisher and I was hoping to tell the Society about progress but was surprised to learn that they were no longer in residence at the local library which is being refurbished.
However, I believe that the Society is hoping to return to the library premises once current work has been completed.
In view of the central location and, in particular, past contact made through the library, I can think of no better place for the Christchurch Local History Society to operate from.
Perhaps your readers have information regarding the present situation.
