ONCE again Poole Council is trying to take council taxpayers for fools.

Last year we had the green bin fiasco where the public voted against them, but Poole council decided we must have them anyway. Now we have the top secret vote to turn off street lighting.

I was not informed when I completed my questionnaire about street lighting that I was taking part in a secret ballot. What are you afraid of, Poole Council? Was this another resounding no vote against turning off the lights? But you are going to press on anyway.

It should be considered that the results be published before any action is decided upon.

Surely that is what a democratic society is based upon, not an elected body just doing what it pleases.

To say that the streets concerned are not to be informed because it might raise awareness amongst the criminal fraternity of rich pickings is absolute tosh.

Surely those criminals will know within the first week where to go and rob.

There are also the good old health and safety issues to consider.

If I come home after street light curfew and trip up the curb in the darkness, can I then sue Poole Council?

Finally, it is worthy noting that the areas affected by this crazy idea do not include any prestige areas of Poole, like Sandbanks, Canford Cliffs, or Branksome Park. I wonder why that is.

The local elections, when they come again, will reflect the true feelings of the electorate over this dictatorial attitude of Poole council, so be warned
