I RESPOND to your article ‘Our four-year-old doesn’t have a place’, published on Wednesday May 16.
It is a shame that some people believe Kingsleigh Primary School to be a ‘rough’ school and that their children will be ‘isolated’.
On behalf of everyone associated with Kingsleigh Primary we are all fiercely proud of our school, its recent achievements and are very proud of the community we serve. In recent weeks we have shown many families around our school who have been impressed by the friendly and calm learning atmosphere and the excellent facilities.
The most recent league tables put Kingsleigh in the top six of Bournemouth schools for all three of the national targets at the end of Year 6 and a vast majority of our parents believe we are doing a good job (99.1 per cent). Our school caters very well for the many working families who travel some distance.
The Breakfast and After-school care facilities mean that we are open from 7.45am until 5.45pm, providing safe and fun activities. Also, the fact that our reception aged pupils start full-time from early September means that not only do they get a great start in school but families are able to plan childcare more easily.
Obviously, it is important that all children get a good start in school and we would welcome the opportunity to show Tamzin Dear and her parents around Kingsleigh Primary School to reassure them that their daughter would receive a first-class start to school life.
Richard Gower, Headteacher, Kingsleigh Primary School, Bournemouth
