I FEAR Bournemouth council are about to make an awful mistake, fuelled by uneducated public opinion.
Yes the IMAX is unpopular, but it was always under-utilised and poorly advertised.
Decades ago, first and foremost IMAX was to be a state-of-the-art cinema showing 3D films and hi-tech sounds.
Its concept was way before its time and now that 3D has become of age, with most blockbuster films and now TV programmes being shot in 3D, we want to take the pioneering attraction away from Bournemouth.
Planners at the time had forbidden any illuminated advertising to be displayed on the building’s exterior, so all businesses struggled from day one. Now there is a gaudy funfair outside surely this now is nonsense.
The council should plug in the electric, run a vacuum cleaner over the floor and open it up as the successful 21st century all-weather visitor attraction Bournemouth is searching for.
