IT’S amazing how many critical letters your get about Bournemouth Council from people living in Poole, Burley, Ferndown and further afield. They should concentrate on what is happening where they live instead of ranting about us here in Bournemouth.
There is so much positive to report that it is difficult to know where to start, but in response to Mr Davies of Ferndown, I will make a start.
The first project of the Bournemouth Development Company, at Leyton Mount is going ahead, with detailed plans now being finalised – this will completely transform the somewhat neglected side of Horseshoe Common, bringing life to this part of town.
Boscombe Pier is extremely popular with locals and visitors alike, it is well used winter and summer, won last year’s Pier of the Year award and is a credit to Boscombe beach.
The Nautilus scheme is, of course, being proposed by a private developer, but we are hopeful that it will go ahead soon. Meanwhile, the Pavilion has had a complete transformation. Gone is the unsightly pub on the seaward side, to be replaced by the Dance South West complex and more recently the West Terrace has been revamped and is being used by Bournemouth’s Arts University as a performance centre, with a terrace cafe open to the public. For the first time in many years, the Pavilion is a living, busy centre day and night, full of innovative cultural offerings.
A large pot of money has been set aside for repairs to our roads and just last week we were awarded £3.6million to improve cycling and pedestrian access around town.
We have green flags galore for our parks and our beaches have recently been voted the best in the country by Britain’s best known online travel advisers.
Bournemouth Council is forging ahead with innovative and bold schemes – our residents are happy, and we are going forward with confidence in our future.
CLLR ANNE FILER, Cabinet Member for Corporate Efficiency, Bournemouth Borough Council
